G. Alan Perkins earned his B.S. degree (Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences) in 1978 from Texas A&M University, and his M.A. degree (Zoology) in 1981 from Southern Illinois University. Mr. Perkins worked as a research biologist for eight years before entering law school. He received his J.D. with high honors in 1991 from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, William H. Bowen School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Journal.
Mr. Perkins is admitted to
the bar in Arkansas, US District Courts for the Eastern
and Western Districts of Arkansas, US Court of Federal
Claims and US Courts of Appeal for the Eighth and Federal
Circuits. He focuses his practice in the areas of
environmental, energy, natural resources, and oil and gas
law and business-related litigation. He has handled many
significant environmental cases, involving Superfund
liability and cost-recovery, oilfield contamination, RCRA,
Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, NEPA challenges,
citizens' suits, wetlands, and a number of state-law-based
environmental cases. Representative business litigation
includes contract disputes, unfair competition,
misappropriation of trade secrets, interference with
contracts, and other business torts, as well as general
liability.
Mr. Perkins often represents
clients in dealing with state and federal administrative
agencies, including the US Environmental Protection
Agency, Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality,
Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, Arkansas
Oil & Gas Commission, and US Army Corps of
Engineers, among others.
Mr. Perkins has been recognized in The
Best Lawyers in America
since 1999, with expertise
in the fields
of environmental law
and oil and gas law. His memberships
include the American Bar Association (Sections of
Litigation; Environment, Energy, and Resources;
Administrative Law; and Law Practice Management), Arkansas
Bar Association (Environmental Law Section, Chair
2000-2001; Natural Resources Law; and Litigation
Sections), and the Pulaski County Bar Association. He is
Adjunct Professor, Trial Advocacy at UALR William H. Bowen
School of Law, Little Rock. In 2006, Mr. Perkins was
appointed to sit as Special Associate Justice on the
Arkansas Supreme Court.
Mr. Perkins belongs to the
Arkansas Environmental Federation and the Arkansas
Forestry Association. He is certified as a Wildlife
Biologist by The Wildlife Society. Mr. Perkins regularly
participates as speaker and program planner in legal
education and trade seminars on environmental and natural
resources issues and he has authored a number of legal and
technical publications.
